Battle of Lunshunkou
Japan's plan was to defeat the Chinese naval base Lushunkou (known as Port Arthur by the West). Port Arthur was considered un-passable due to its location and strong defense.
On October 6, the Japanese had captured the fortified town, Kin-Chow, next to Lushunkou. By October 7, Japan had captured all forts leading to Port Arthur.
On November 21, 1894, the battle began at Lushunkou.
By the end of the day, all the shore fortifications at Port Arthur fell to the Japanese. Japan had won the battle and gained control.
Commanders
Port Arthur massacre
After the Chinese displayed mutilated Japanese bodies, the Japanese got their revenge by killing everyone at Port Arthur. This amounted to about 20,000 Chinese people killed; no one was spared.
Effects
Beiyang Fleet couldn't repair ships anymore due to Port Arthur/Lushunkou being taken. The Europeans thought the Japanese victory was amazing, but that was overshadowed by the Port Arthur massacre. Europeans were surprised and horrified at how cold and cruel the Japanese were.
